MLB notes: Tigers, Upton reach deal, report says
The Detroit Tigers consented to terms with free-operators outfielder Justin Upton on a six-year contract Monday night, USA Today reported, refering to a source. The arrangement, $133 million for a long time, won't get to be official until Upton passes his physical. Upton will turn into the third most generously compensated free-operators position player this winter behind Jason Heyward (eight years, $184 million with the Chicago Cubs) and Chris Davis (seven years, $161 million with the Baltimore Orioles).
Gordon appreciates achievement • Dee Gordon put his mark on a $50 million, five-year contract with the Miami Marlins as more than twelve relatives viewed from the front column at a news meeting Monday. "My family stayed with me through the harsh times," Gordon said. "I'm happy they're here for the great times."
The 5-foot-11 Gordon is a baffled ball player who changed to baseball in school. Last season he drove the NL in batting (.333), hits (205) and stolen bases (58), won a Gold Glove at a respectable halfway point and made the All-Star group.
Royals complete manage Cain • The Royals finished their $17.5 million, two-year manage Lorenzo Cain, purchasing out the All-Star outfielder's last two years of mediation. Cain will get $6.5 million this season and $11 million next season.
Officers bring back Lewis • Colby Lewis pronounced that he will be prepared for opening day after knee surgery. The Rangers marked him Monday to an one-year bargain for $6 million to be in their beginning revolution. Lewis drove the Rangers with 17 wins and 204 2/3 innings last season.
